WEST (April 14, 2014) The West 4/17 Forever Forward committee sponsors an observance Thursday on the first anniversary of the fertilizer plant explosion that killed 15 including 12 first responders and damaged or destroyed hundreds of homes and buildings.
The hour-long observance begins with a performance by the Baylor Singing Seniors 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the West Fair and Rodeo Grounds.
At 7:51, the time of the explosion, a minute of silence will be observed.
Speakers include West Mayor Tommy Muska, the Rev. John Crowder of West’s First Baptist Church and Baylor University President Ken Starr.
A special video will also be shown.
The observance is open to the public, but most of the seats will be reserved for those directly affected by the explosion.
An overflow area will accommodate others.
