WHITNEY (JULY 29, 2013)--More trouble for a Central Texas hospital whose owner is being investigated for Medicare fraud after some employees said their latest paychecks bounced.
For Lake Whitney Medical Center employees Friday, July 19 was supposed to be payday, but many said their checks were returned.
One employee, who asked not to be identified, said they were told payroll transfer went in too late that afternoon.
The employee said most of his co-workers' pay checks eventually cleared, but the delay in cash caused problems for some.
A different employee said a skipped bill resulted in lights being shut off.
Employees said they are expecting another paycheck this Friday.
Some admit to wondering what if this time, the money does not go through at all.
Lake Whitney Medical Center is just one of five Central Texas hospitals undergoing turmoil after the owner Tariq Mahmood was indicted for medicare and medicaid fraud.
Two of his facilities have been shut down so far.
Lake Whitney Director of Nurses Phyllis January said in an off-camera interview that despite all the problems, the hospital will remain open.
