State Capitol Christmas Display Includes Tree, Manger, Atheist Sign Save Email Print

A | A | A

(December 1, 2008)--The holiday tree in the Washington state Capitol this year will be joined by a Christian nativity scene and an atheist group’s billboard.

The Washington Capitol has had a holiday tree for 19 years.

In 2006, a menorah sponsored by a Seattle Jewish group for Hanukkah was added to the display, which prompted a local man to sue the state to allow the nativity scene depicting Jesus' birth.

There have been no requests for a menorah display this year, but an addition will be a sign sponsored by the Freedom from Religion Foundation celebrating the winter solstice.

The foundation says it will declare, in part, "There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell," and, "Religion is but myth and superstition."

Maybe the anti-religious group can add one of those fish with feet to mock christianity? Why is it we have terms like "racists", "Anti-semit", "sexist' etc to condemn those that bash those groups. But we don't have a word for those that bash Christians? And now the State sanctions hate against the christians by allowing apposing viewpoints toward our christian traditions? I think thats worse then if the state hadn't allowed them to set up the nativity in the first place.
