(November 6, 2008)—Rep. John Carter, R-Round Rock, said after winning re-election earlier this week he plans to run for House Republican Conference Secretary.
The move comes as a shuffle begins in GOP House leadership in the wake of an election that produced disappointing results for the Republican Party.
Carter, who was first elected to the U.S. House in 2002, begins his fourth term in January.
“I will return to Washington in the next few days and campaign for a spot amongst our Republican leaders because I believe we must fight harder for our timeless Texas values,” Carter said.
“While the outcome of (the) election was not as I hoped, we must remember that America is still a center right country. In Texas, we still know what it means to overcome the odds with hard work and a determined spirit. Our conservative values, along with our tried-and-true Texas spirit make our region the best in the nation,” he said.
“I know how important these values are to you, and I will work even harder to uphold them as I pursue a position within the Republican leadership.”
