I didn't see it happen, but I did pass it. Tons of people helping with very somber faces. To Sherri and the rest of your family; sorry for your lose.

OK Then: "Redneck, blue collar truckers"? You say it like there's something wrong with that or that blue collar workers are somehow defective or deficient. So you're what.....? At least as rude as Curtis, but somewhat more predjudiced? I would guess you are a total failure in life and simply rely on attacking others in order to make yourself feel like you aren't a failure. Of course, you will now go on to tell us all what a fabulous success you are, no doubt in the field of law, or maybe medicine. America was built by "blue collar workers", and I am not a bit ashamed to be one. To the family of the unfortunate (sneer)"blue collar worker" I can only say I am very sorry he did not live to go home to his family yesterday evening. I, too, have a family and pray I get home to them each eveny. My heartfelt sympathies are directed towards you.

Just FYI, he didnt do anything wrong, it turns out he wasnt feeling well day before, very weak, and either had a heart attack or passed out re a unknown health issue. Just shows you shouldnt say anything rude unless you know facts. I am his family, and thank you who do care about this wonderful man! My prayers go to the rest of the family.

I feel sorry for this man, his Family, and his Friends. He was a person, with a job, trying to make a living. And you people need to realize you would probably 'not' have anything(clothes/cars/homes/food), if it were not for Truck Drivers. May GOD be with the Family/Friends. And Thanks to the rest of you Truckers and Families/Friends!!

I figured I would hear from all you redneck, blue collar truckers. Sorry, I have no compassion for you whatsoever. And to Curtis, you are just plain rude.

The driver was my uncle Mike, you people are ranting about something without knowing the facts. He was/is a person, as are we. No one is perfect and the details havent even gotten out. Please have a heart.

OK Then... You have no clue!! Rail IS used more than you know. Next time your at Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, HEB etc, go around back and look at the rail spur. You will not see one!! You will see a loading dock! Everything you have, including the computer your typing on, arrives at the retailer on a truck. I am not a truck driver, but I do have a little common sense. Think it throug before you speak!

As for trucks blocking the highway, bear in mind a mojority of companlies govern the speed of their trucks. Mine will only go 70. A lot are governed at 65 or even 62. If I catch up with another truck running at 69 1/2, it takes me a while to get past him. I hate it, but thats the way it is. I even try to watch and back off my speed a bit to let other trucks get by me quicker. Nobody, especially 4 wheelers ever bother to thank me. You weren't even aware of it. If you think trucks are such a problem, try to find a friend or aquaintence who drives a truck for a living and go for a ride. I guarantee your eyes will be opened.

Anonymous and OK Then: Neither of you has a clue what you are talking about. Sorry, thats the unvarnished truth. I drive a truck all over central Texas, often up and down I35. It's very frustrating dealing with 4 wheelers, as a large percentage of them will take chances in front of a truck they wouldn't dream of taking in front of another car. I often go out in excess of 80,000 lbs, with proper permits. I drive the speed limit and am VERY aware of each vehicle behind, beside and in front of me. I have to be, in order to avoid 4 wheelers when they act stupid. I see very few trucks speeding, primarily because the penalty is so high if caught. You have no idea how high, and wouldn't believe me if I told you. We are also subject to random stops by state, county and local police for no other reason than "just to check you out". Any small flaw such as an oil drip, an exhaust leak or a tire worn too much and we get a hefty fine and hours of sitting for road service to come fix the problem.

I-35 is very dangerous. Not all truckers speed but many many do as well as switiching lanes when a driver in the center lane is going slower than they want them to go. When passing on the left of one of those 18 wheelers I floor it to get around as they cannot see me and may just decide to pass the vehicle in front of them. With the concrete barriers there, there is no where to go but into the wall. I personally have almost been pushed off the road but fortunately gunned it and got out of the way. Too many trucks on I-35. I think one day last week there were three 18 wheeler accidents on I-35 on the same day. I try to drive the speed limit but at night all bets are off. I applaud the Texas State troopers as most of the time they are standing by and will stop those speeding. However, there are many who are not stopped as they can't be everywhere. Like I said, that doesn't go for all the truckers. Even some of them probably are aware. And I agree there are just as many cars do the same.

From my view point 50% Drivers of 4 wheel vehicles are aggressive and wreckless. Cutting across 3 lanes, wedge yourself between two trucks and lay on the brakes. If everyone had to spend time in a truck (or motorcycle) then driving a normal 4 wheel vehicle would change your point of view. End result being more aware and courteous of other drivers.

I-35 is unsafe to drive anymore. It's been taken over by these 18-wheelers who drive like maniacs. Why can't things be shipped by rail? It seems this would be the most economical way to ship and get these dangerous trucks off the roads. Don't you just love it when 2 18-wheelers are side by side on the highway and no one can get around them? Just so one can go 2 miles an hour faster than the other. Ridiculous if you ask me.
