FORT HOOD (November 7, 2009)--Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, have visited privately with wounded soldiers and their families near the site of the worst mass shooting in history on a military installation in the U.S.
The Bushes made the private visit to Fort Hood's Darnall Army Medical Center on Friday night.
The former president’s spokesman David Sherzer said in an e-mail that the couple thanked Fort Hood's military leaders and hospital staff for the "amazing care they are providing."
The Bushes live in Dallas, but also spend time at their ranch near Crawford, north of the post, where Bush made both private and public visits during his presidency.
Earlier in the day Friday, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas and Rep. John Carter, R-Round Rock, both made public visits to the post.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry visited with wounded soldiers Saturday at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

@ Jill...oh how your ignorance is showing! Obama didn't come because he doesn't care. You heard his statement on the day of the shooting, 2 hours after it happened. He had to talk about the Native American summit and "give a shout out" to some of his pals before he even mentioned the shooting. His true colors are starting to show.
I am so sick of hearing that President Bush started "this". I really feel sorry for ignorant people!! Anyway I had the honor and privilege to meet President Bush and Laura Bush. I know it meant a lot to the soldiers and their families as well as my fellow co-workers!
