Baylor Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Texas A&M Save Email Print

WACO, Texas – Jillian Phillips tallied 11 kills and Sarah Ammerman added 10 winners as Texas A&M defeated Baylor 3-0 (30-27, 30-24, 30-24) on Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center.

Katie Sanders (Katy, Texas) led all players with 14 kills, while Ashlie Christenson (Cleburne, Texas) added 13 kills and a .308 hitting percentage.

Anna Breyfogle (Buda, Texas) recorded 11 kills with only one hitting error in 23 attacks (.435) and added a career-best 10 digs, but the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week struggled at the net with only three blocks.

Baylor (8-7, 1-4 Big 12) only totaled five team blocks, but the Bears had a season-best five players reach double-figures in digs. Sarah Grace (Houston, Texas) led the way with a match-high 21 digs. Taylor Barnes (Arlington, Texas) added 12 digs, while Kristen Schramek (San Antonio, Texas) and Sanders added 11 apeice.

The Bears missed an early opportunity to take the lead after faltering at the end of game one. With the score tied at 24 apiece, Baylor reeled off three straight points, including two Breyfogle kills, to take a 27-24 lead and force the Aggies into a timeout. Texas A&M responded with six straight points to take the game 30-27.

The teams exchanged points over the first 25 serves in game two. With Texas A&M holding a three-point lead, Baylor scored three straight to tie the game at 19 apiece. The Aggies then scored five straight points including consecutive kills from Kristen Schevikhoven to take a 25-21 lead, and held on for the 30-24 win.

Baylor led by as many as four points in the third game before the Aggies rallied to tie the score at 17 apiece. Texas A&M scored five straight to build a lead, but Baylor pulled to within one at 22-21 on a Christenson kill. The Aggies scored four straight points and held on for a 30-24 win in the third game.

The Bears return to action on Saturday as Baylor travels to face top-ranked Nebraska at 7 p.m. at Nebraska Coliseum. The live audio broadcast of the match will be available at baylorbears.com.
