(December 13, 2007)--Oklahoma assistant coach Kevin Sumlin reportedly will be named head football coach at the University of Houston.

Houston Athletics Director Dave Maggard told the Houston Chronicle that he's prepared to name Sumlin.

A news conference is expected Friday.

A call to Maggard wasn't immediately returned to The Associated ress.

Sumlin has spent five years on the OU staff of coach Bob Stoops.

Sumlin would replace Art Briles, who resigned Nov. 28 and took over the Baylor program.

Sumlin has worked at Washington State, Wyoming, Minnesota, Purdue, Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

He served as special teams coordinator and tight ends coach before being promoted to OU's co-offensive coordinator, passing-game coordinator and wide-receivers coach in 2006.
