Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s basketball team could not overcome a dominant performance from Schreiner’s Monica Enriquez and the Cru women seemed sluggish in an 83-75 loss to Schreiner University Thursday night in Belton. The loss drops the UMHB women to 12-8 overall and 10-6 in American Southwest Conference play and also drops the Cru women into a tie for fourth-place in the ASC West Division with Concordia Texas. Schreiner improves to 6-14 overall and 5-11 in the ASC with the victory.

Schreiner led 40-34 at halftime after a first-half that saw six ties and four lead changes. Schreiner then scored the first seven points of the second-half to stretch the lead to 13. The Lady Mountaineers led by as many as 16 points in the second half before UMHB cut it to seven points at 78-71 with 43 seconds left. Schreiner quickly pushed it back to 10 points and the Cru women could not close the gap from there.

Blair Heitmiller topped UMHB with 17 points and she also grabbed five rebounds. Landie Thompson had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Cru women and Jenny Black came off the bench to add 11 points for UMHB. Enriquez was dominant and knocked on the door of a quadruple-double. She finished with 24 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and seven steals. Anna Fareed added 21 points and Courtney Davis had 19 for the Lady Mountaineers. UMHB shot just 37 per cent from the field and went 6-23 from three-point range. Schreiner shot 45 per cent from the field, 44 per cent from three-point range and hit 26-29 free-throws. UMHB was 9-10 from the charity stripe.

The Cru women will now hit the road to open a three-game road trip with a 1:00 PM tip-off at Texas Lutheran University on Saturday. The UMHB women will then play at Howard Payne University and Sul Ross State University next week.
