Villegas Named All-American
UMHB baseball player Joseph Villegas named third team All-American.

University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball player Joseph Villegas has been named to the Rawlings/ABCA All-American Team. Villegas, a sophomore from Hays High School, was a Third Team All-American selection and becomes the Cru’s first ABCA All-American since UMHB moved to NCAA Division III.

Villegas batted .427 for the Cru and set a new school single-season record with seven triples. He added 21 doubles, eight home runs and 44 RBI. Villegas was also a perfect 12-12 on stolen bases and posted team-highs with 73 hits, 55 runs scored and a .772 slugging percentage. Villegas was also named to the Rawlings/ABCA All-West Region First Team and earned First Team All-West Division honors from the American Southwest Conference this season.

The Cru finished the 2008 season with a 28-12 overall record and UMHB went 14-7 in ASC West Division play. The Cru won a share of the ASC West Division title for the first time in school history and UMHB advanced to the ASC Championship Tournament for the second straight year.
