(August 7, 2008)--First round play at the opening round of the 90th PGA Championship has been suspended because of darkness. Robert Karlsson and Jeev Milkha (MIL'-kuh) Singh are the clubhouse leaders after shooting 2-under 68. Andres Romero also is at 2-under through 15 holes.
Sergio Garcia is in a foursome that trails by one shot. They include Ken Duke, Billy Mayfair and Sean O'Hair.
Phil Mickelson and Anthony Kim were among those who shot even-par 70. Under the tough conditions at Oakland Hills, par was considered a very good score today.
Padraig (PAH'-drihg) Harrington is trying to add another major to his back-to-back British Open titles. Harrington opened with three straight birdies and was 3-under-par through four holes. But he struggled after that, finishing with a 1-over 71.
Play was called for darkness after an hour and 25-minute rain delay late in the day.
