Olympic Gold Medalist Returns To Texas Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 21, 2008)--"Welcome home" signs and U.S. flags greeted Olympic gold medalist Nastia Liukin Thursday as the gymnast arrived back Texas.

Several hundred fans were on hand Thursday afternoon at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to celebrate the return of the 18-year-old from Parker.

Liukin won five medals at the Beijing Olympics, including a gold medal in the all-around competition.

She rounded out her medal count with three silvers and a bronze.

Liukin is the second straight American to win the all-around crown, succeeding training partner Carly Patterson, who was at DFW Airport as part of the welcoming group.

A number of children were also in the crowd, including some who train with Liukin.

The United Airlines jet carrying Liukin was doused in a water-cannon salute courtesy of firefighters and two fire engines.

Kudos to Nastia who won her gold "honestly", unlike the Chinese who slipped in their "underage" gold medal gymnast and are trying to cover it up! But, no surprise coming from China.
