(September 6, 2008)--All Texas Longhorns sports, all the time.
That's the idea for the University of Texas, which hopes to
launch a channel devoted exclusively to Longhorns sports by fall
2009.

It would make Texas the first school in the nation with its own
sports television channel.

The Austin American-Statesman reports that UT has identified up
to 3,000 hours of original programming annually that could be
offered to viewers.

The station wouldn't carry Texas football games or most men's
basketball games, since those sports are already under regional and
national TV agreements.

But university officials say there could still be highlight
shows, game analysis and features. The channel could also broadcast
live sports such as women's basketball, baseball and softball.

A decision on whether the channel is a go is expected by
December.

This channel would be an excellent addition to local TV. There are hardly ever any UT baseball games (or collegiate at all) featured on any sports network, not to mention the football and men's basketball games that aren't under regional or national contract would be on there as well. Also, contrary to Mark there would be far more important things to show on the channel rather than a few of the delinquents that they get.

This new channel could consume alot of blank air time by discussing current arraignment status of their football stars at the Williamson County jail.
