(September 17, 2008)--The Houston Astros will donate $1 million to help
with Hurricane Ike relief efforts.

Astros owner Drayton McLane, the Astros in Action Foundation and
Houston players and staff will donate the funds to the Greater Houston Community Foundation to benefit a hurricane relief fund that was established by Houston mayor Bill White.

McLane said in a statement that the team cares deeply about its fans and community.

He said he hopes the donation will assist in what will be a very difficult and lengthy recovery process.

Hurricane Ike and its remnants are blamed for more than 50 deaths, including 17 in Texas.
