(September 23, 2008)--The Baylor volleyball team returns home on Wednesday as the Bears play host to Oklahoma at 7 p.m. in the Ferrell Center. The Bears are coming off a 3-1 win at Missouri on Sunday. Baylor enters the meeting with an 10-2 overall record, following conference wins against Texas Tech and Missouri last week.
Baylor won its first two Big 12 matches for the first time since 1997. During the 1997 season, Baylor’s second Big 12 win also came at Missouri. The win at Missouri was Baylor’s first at the Hearnes Center since 2001, snapping a six-match road losing streak against the Tigers. Anna Breyfogle moved back to her middle blocker position after starting the first 10 matches of the season at right-side hitter. The preseason All-Big 12 selection responded by averaging 3.62 kills per set on .424 hitting for the week. She also added 17 total blocks including six solos. Brittany Ridenour made her first career-start for the Bears against Missouri, playing as the defensive specialist for the right-side hitter rotation. She recorded a career-high 19 digs in the match to lead the Bears.
Oklahoma enters the match at 6-5 on the season, and a 2-1 mark in Big 12 play. The Sooners won matches at Texas Tech and at home to Missouri before falling in five sets at Texas A&M on Sunday. The Sooners dropped four of their first five matches before responding with five-straight wins. Oklahoma is led by middle blocker Francie Ekwerekwu who leads the team with 132 kills and a .315 hitting percentage. Lacy Barnes holds a 3.91 digs per set average, while Chrissy Disarro leads the team with 1.34 blocks per set.
