(October 5, 2008)--The Los Angeles Dodgers are going on to the
National League Championship Series for the first time since 1988.
Once again, the Chicago Cubs are going home.
The Cubs will not win a World Series for the 100th consecutive
season after being swept by the Dodgers in the NL Division Series.
The Cubs have now lost nine straight postseason games.
The Dodgers beat the Cubs 3-1 to finish the sweep. They jumped
out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run first-inning double by James Loney.
Loney drove in six runs in the series. Catcher Russell Martin added
an RBI double in the fifth.
Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda (hih-ROH'-kee kuh-ROH'-duh) was
masterful on the mound. He went six and a-third shutout innings,
allowing six hits. Jonathan Broxton closed out the Cubs for the
save.
The Dodgers outscored the Cubs 20-6 in the three-game sweep.
The Dodgers now await the winner of the Philadelphia-Milwaukee
series. That series opens Thursday in Los Angeles.
