Baylor's Lukacs and Mueller Fall in ITA Main Draw Save Email Print

(October 9, 2008)--Baylor juniors Denes Lukacs and Dominik Mueller both bowed out of the main draw of the D'Novo All-American Tennis Championships with losses on Thursday at the University of Tulsa’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Mueller lost in the first round while Lukacs fell to defeat in the second round.

Mueller took the court first for Baylor when he faced off against Jean-Yves Aubone of Florida State. Mueller, a native of Frankfurt, Germany and ranked No. 44, fell to the 13th-ranked Aubone, 6-2, 6-4. Lukacs (Eger, Hungary), the tournament’s No. 2 seed, defeated 33rd-ranked Guillermo Gomez of Georgia Tech in round of 64 action, 6-2, 6-4. In the next round, Lukacs lost to No. 104 Michael Shabaz of Virginia, 6-2, 6-4.

In first-round consolation action, Mueller upset No. 36 Dean Jackson of the University of San Diego, 6-1, 6-4. Mueller will face 22nd-ranked Andrei Daescu of Oklahoma in consolation round of 16 action on Friday at 11 a.m.

The D'Novo All-American Tennis Championships, held this year at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, entails five days of qualifying events. It began with a 256-player pre-qualifying singles tournament (Oct. 3-5). The pre-qualifying fed into a 128-player and 64-doubles team qualifying tournaments on Oct. 6-8, which fed into the 64-player, 32-doubles team main draws on Oct. 9-12.
