(October 14, 2008)--The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football maintained its ranking as the nation’s #3 team in this week’s American Football Coaches Association’s Top 25 Poll this week. The Cru picked up two points for a vote total of 917 points in this week’s poll. Mount Union once again holds down the #1 spot with 31 first-place votes and 991 total points. Defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater picked up the other nine first-place votes and 964 total points for second place. UMHB is one of two American Southwest Conference teams ranked in this week’s poll. Hardin-Simmons University moved up two spots to #15 in the country this week. Trinity University is tied for 11th this week to give the state of Texas three of the top 15 teams in the nation in the AFCA Top 25.
The Cru also held on to its #3 ranking in this week’s D3football.com Top 25 Poll. UMHB totaled 582 total points in that poll, an increase of three points over last week’s total.
“We challenge our kids to get better every week and we had some players who played their best game of the season last week,” Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “We need to have people continue to step up because we have to get ready to play a good Mississippi College football team this weekend.”
UMHB is 5-0 overall and 4-0 in ASC play following that 35-10 victory over Louisiana College last Saturday. The Cru will now play host to Mississippi College (2-3, 2-1 ASC) for a 1:00 PM kickoff at Tiger Field in Belton this Saturday. The Choctaws were off last week and MC topped Louisiana College 21-19 two weeks ago.
