UMHB Falls In Polls Save Email Print

(October 28, 2008)--The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football dropped six spots but stayed in the top ten as the Cru moved to #9 in the country in this week’s American Football Coaches Association’s Top 25 Poll this week. The Cru totaled 647 points as they fell from #3 in the nation in last poll following a 40-28 loss at NAIA Southern Oregon last Saturday. Mount Union held on to the top spot with 39 first-place votes and 999 total points. Muhlenberg took over the #2 spot in the country with 896 total points, replacing defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater, who dropped to #10 following a 17-16 loss to Wisconsin-Stevens Point last Saturday. Trinity University moved up three spots to #8 in the nation with 649 total points and Hardin-Simmons University held steady at #13 nationally with 522 total points to give the state of Texas three teams in the top 13 in this week’s poll.

The Cru dropped five spots to #8 in the nation in this week’s D3football.com Top 25 Poll. UMHB totaled 429 points in falling from a #3 national ranking in that poll.

"We need to learn a lot about ourselves from last Saturday’s game,” Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “We can learn a lot from that game, but we also need to put it behind us. We can’t let Southern Oregon beat us twice, we have to focus on what’s still ahead of us and get ready to go play East Texas Baptist this weekend.”

UMHB is 6-1 overall and 5-0 in ASC play following that 40-28 loss to Southern Oregon last Saturday. The Cru will now travel to Marshall to take on East Texas Baptist University in a key American Southwest Conference showdown this Saturday. The Tigers are 4-3 overall and 4-2 in ASC play following a 24-21 victory at Mississippi College last weekend.
