)October 29, 2008)--The Baylor men’s golf team moved up two spots to No. 7 in the latest Golfstat rankings released Wednesday. Baylor is one of two Big 12 schools ranked in the top 10, joining Oklahoma State (No. 3 overall).

Baylor sports a 284-11 overall record against NCAA Division I opponents in head-to-head competition. The Bears are 5-2 vs. top 25 schools, while posting two victories in four fall tournaments.

On Tuesday, Baylor finished fifth overall with a team score of 23-over 875 at the inaugural Baylor Intercollegiate at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas. Freshman Joakim Mikkelsen (Drammen, Norway) and senior Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas) kept the Bears in the hunt for the tournament title during the final round Tuesday. Mikkelsen was Baylor’s top individual performer, finishing tied for sixth overall at 2-over 215. Allcorn finished tied for ninth at 4-over 217.

Mikkelsen leads the team with a 72.00 stroke average, while posting a team-low 0.82 score vs. par. Colton Williams (Jacksboro, Texas) ranks second on the team in both stroke average (72.18) and score vs. par (1.38). Five different Baylor golfers have carded rounds in the 60s – Mikkelsen, Williams, Allcorn, Lorenzo Scotto (Pordenone, Italy) and Cody Paladino (Kensington, Conn.).

During the second round of the Baylor Intercollegiate Monday, Williams aced the par-3 fourth hole at Royal Oaks, marking Baylor’s first hole-in-one this season.

The Baylor men’s golf team will conclude the fall portion of its 2008-09 schedule when it travels to Kahuku, Hawai`i, for the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate Nov. 10-12.
