(October 31, 20080—Baylor alumni Jay and Jenny Reid Allison of Frisco have given the university the lead donation for a $12.1 million indoor football practice facility, the Baylor Board of Regents announced Friday.

The Jay and Jenny Allison Indoor Football Practice Facility will complete the $46.2 million Alwin O. and Dorothy Highers Athletics Complex,

Regents announced the gift at the end of their fall meeting Friday.

“The Jay and Jenny Allison Indoor Football Practice Facility will complete the Highers Athletics Complex in first class fashion and afford Coach (Art) Briles, his staff and student-athletes one of the best indoor practice facilities in the Big 12 and nation,” Athletic Director Ian McCaw said.

The facility will be built next to practice fields on the marina side of the athletics complex and will include a 100-yard field with a synthetic playing surface.

Ground will be broken in November and the facility should be completed by the start of preseason practice next August, the university said.

I didn't go go Baylor, so I am not part of Baylor nation. Since I have been in Waco the last few years, the football team seems to stay around the same spot as far as improving goes. From the outside looking in, I don't see why the indoor practice facility is a good idea. Personally, I think Baylor should drop their football program, and just concentrate on all other sports. It's really the women's basketball team that has drawn any attention to Baylor athletics. I don't see how having an indoor practice facility will help sway any future recruits either. I think many people see Baylor as just a fine academic school. People in Waco seem to think they can't mention Waco unless they mention Baylor in the same breath. Waco does a lot more for Baylor than Baylor does for Waco. When students graduate, they jet out of town to high paying jobs. Yet Waco leaders don't seem to get that point yet. Forget downtown. Bring some high paying jobs to Waco. If Temple can, why can't Waco?
