(November 4, 2008)--The Houston Astros announced today that the club has outrighted infielder Mark Saccomanno to Triple A Round Rock, removing him from Houston’s 40-man roster. The announcement was made by General Manager Ed Wade.

Saccomanno, 28, hit .200 (2x10) with one home run and two RBI in 10 games for the Astros in 2008. On September 8 vs. Pittsburgh, he became one of four players in Astros franchise history to hit a home run in his first Major League at-bat.

The Most Valuable Player for Round Rock, Saccomanno hit .297 (157x528) with 27 home runs and 84 RBI for the Express this season before his September promotion to Houston. A career .277 (681x2459) minor league hitter, Saccomanno has been in the Astros system for six seasons (2003-08) after being drafted in the 23rd round of the 2003 First-Year Player draft.

Saccomanno is not eligible to become a minor league free agent and will remain under the control of the Astros organization.
