UMHB Women's Soccer Loses In Conference Tournament
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team could not overcome U.T.-Tyler’s second half outburst and the Cru women fell to the Lady Patriots 6-0 in the first round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament.

(November 7, 2008)--The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team could not overcome U.T.-Tyler’s second half outburst and the Cru women fell to the Lady Patriots 6-0 in the first round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament. The UMHB women close out the season with a 10-8 overall record following the loss. U.T.-Tyler will now move on to the tournament semifinals against tournament host Hardin-Simmons University tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM.
The two teams were scoreless into the 41st minute before U.T.-Tyler grabbed a 1-0 lead on Kendall Kramer’s goal off an assist from Brenda Salinas. Jessica Pierce scored eight minutes into the second half to push the lead to 2-0. Lauren Thomas and Kramer then each scored a goal in a four-minute span to take the lead to 4-0 U.T.-Tyler. Sonya Gomez closed out the scoring with two goals in a four-minute span to provide the final margin. UMHB was out shot in the match 21-4. Cru goalkeeper Allyson Sargeant posted six saves in the match. Sam Fraser and Lauren Hufham combined for the shutout in goal for U.T.-Tyler with each keeper posting one save.
The UMHB women were making a second straight appearance in the ASC Tournament, giving the Cru women back-to-back tournament appearances for the first time in the program’s history. The UMHB women also matched the school single-season record for victories and went 9-4 in regular season ASC play to set a new school mark for conference wins in a season. Today’s loss closes out the careers of four UMHB seniors. Brittany Clemens, Natalie Ervin, Brittany Paxton and Lauren Thorne all played the final games of their Cru soccer careers today.
