(November 10, 2008)--Two University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football players have earned American Southwest Conference Player of the Week honors for their performance in the Cru’s 67-0 victory over Howard Payne University last Saturday. Defensive end Brenson Bristow claimed ASC Defensive Player of the Week honors and kick returner/running back Bryson Tucker was named ASC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Bristow, a sophomore defensive end from Richardson Pearce High School, led the Cru defense with seven total tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss. He also added a sack to help lead a UMHB defense that held the Yellow Jackets scoreless and only allowed 29 rushing yards and 100 yards of total offense.
Tucker, a junior kick returner/running back from Caldwell High School, returned a punt 81 yards for a touchdown and finished with 104 return yards on a pair of punt returns. The punt return was the second-longest in school history and was Tucker’s first career punt return for a touchdown. He also rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries in the win.
The Cru is currently 8-1 overall and 7-0 in ASC play on the season. The victory over Howard Payne clinched at least a share of the ASC title for UMHB and guaranteed the Cru the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. UMHB will close out the regular season with a 1:00 PM kickoff at Sul Ross State University this Saturday in Alpine.
