(November 11, 2008)--The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team held its ground at #7 in the country in the American Football Coaches Association’s Top 25 Poll this week. The Cru totaled 746 total points this week, a gain of 12 points over last week’s total. UMHB is coming off a 67-0 victory over Howard Payne University last Saturday that clinched at least a share of the American Southwest Conference title for the Cru and also guaranteed the team a postseason berth for the fifth straight season. Mount Union holds down the top spot once again with 39 first-place votes and 999 total points. Wabash is second with 913 total points. Defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater picked up the other first-place vote and sits in eighth-place, one spot behind UMHB with 724 total points. ASC rival Hardin-Simmons University is the only other Texas team ranked this week. The Cowboys moved up one spot to 10th in the nation with 612 total points.

“We will always find things that we can improve on and we need to do some things better on both sides of the ball,” Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “Overall, though, we are pleased with where our team is right now and that is two pretty good ballgames in a row.”

The Cru also held steady at #8 in the nation in this week’s D3football.com Top 25 Poll. UMHB totaled 464 points in that poll this week.

The Cru is 8-1 overall and 7-0 in American Southwest Conference play and has already clinched at least a share of a fourth straight ASC title. UMHB will close out the 2008 regular season with a 1:00 PM kickoff against Sul Ross State University Saturday in Alpine. A win would give the Cru the outright ASC title for the fourth straight season and it would be UMHB’s sixth overall ASC championship.
