Senior WR Quan Cosby has been named as one of 10 semifinalists for the 2008 Biletnikoff Award, honoring the nation's top wide receiver, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club has announced.
Cosby is currently riding a streak of 41 straight games with a reception (No. 2 on UT's all-time list), which is fourth nationally among active players, and he has caught a pass in 44 of his 49 career games. He has caught at least three passes in 24 of his last 28 games. For his career, Cosby has caught 186 passes (No. 2 on UT's all-time list) for 2,277 yards (No. 5 on UT's all-time list) and 15 TDs (T-No. 6 on UT's all-time list). He is one of just 10 players in UT history to post at least 100 career receptions and is just the fifth player in UT history to record 2,000 receiving yards. Also UT's top kick and punt returner, he has totaled 4,369 career all-purpose yards (2,277 rec./1,720 KR/372 PR) on 292 plays (15.0 ypp).
This season, Cosby is second on the team in both receptions (66) and receiving yards (802) and is averaging 12.2 yards per catch. His 66 receptions are sixth on UT's single-season list. His 6.6 receptions per game rank 21st nationally and his 80.2 yards per game rank 34th. He has posted at least seven receptions in seven of UT's 10 games and at least 100 yards three times. Cosby has also scored six TDs on the year.
The other semifinalists include Dez Bryant of Oklahoma State, Chase Coffman of Missouri, Austin Collie of BYU, Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech, Eric Decker of Minnesota, Jarett Dillard of Rice, Casey Fitzgerald of North Texas, Jeremy Maclin of Missouri and Kerry Meier of Kansas.
The winner will be announced on the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show on Dec. 11 and will be honored at the 2008 Biletnikoff Award Banquet on February 13, 2009, at the Florida State University Center Club in Tallahassee, Fla. The Keynote speaker will be Len Dawson, former Kansas City Chief and NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback.
