(December 7, 2008) -- The Midway Panthers' playoff run came to an end on a controversial Longview 2-point conversion in overtime.

The Panthers tied the 4A Division I quarterfinal game at 35-35 with seven seconds left in regulation, forcing overtime. Midway scored first in the extra period on a nine yard John Hubert run, giving the Panthers their first lead of the game, 42-35. Longview answered with an overtime touchdown of its own, and instead of kicking the extra point to send the game to a second overtime, the Lobos attempted a two-point conversion.

Quarterback Aaron Johnson illuded would-be tacklers and as he was going down to the turf, he extended the ball towards the goal line. The referees ruled that Johnson broke the plane, giving Longview a 43-42 victory.

The defeat broke a 12-game winning streak for Midway and ended the Panthers' season at 12-and-2.

I dont know how you can make a call like that in a playoff game. I believe his knee was down before the ball crossed the goal line. All the more reason for replays in playoff games.

Please get over it. Here it is two weeks later and the coach at Midway is live at 5. Who does he know at KWTX to get that kind of coverage? La vega threw a game against Lorena and you refuse to do a story on that? What is that?

Midway had that game all the way. I don't care what anyone has to say. The call was stupid!! My Midway Panthers should be there playing for state this weekend, but no people want to pull a La Vega vs. China Spring all over again. Oh well. Panthers I'm so proud of you, you had an amazing season. Always remeber there's always next year. Nothing can stop you if you have heart and hope in what you're doing. PANTHERS FOREVER!! Love Celena Marie.
