(December 9, 2008)--The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor placed four student-athletes on the American Southwest Conference Fall Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team today. The Cru had players named to the football, volleyball, men’s soccer and women’s soccer teams.

John Hamilton represents the Cru on the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Football Team. Hamilton is a junior linebacker and cellular biology major from Temple High School.

Erin Maenius represents UMHB on the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Volleyball Team. Maenius is a sophomore libero and management major from San Antonio MacArthur High School.

Daniel Green represents UMHB on the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Men’s Soccer Team. Green is a senior defender and chemistry major from Abilene High School.

Lauren Thorne represents the Cru on the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Women’s Soccer Team. Thorne is a senior midfielder and finance major from Round Rock High School. She is making her second appearance on the Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team.

This is the second year for the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams. The honor recognizes student-athletes that achieve a higher level of academic achievement (a 3.20 grade-point average or better) while competing as a starter or important reserve on their team. From that list, limited to one nominee per school in each ASC Championship sport – the Sports Information Directors from the conference’s 15 member institutions vote on a Distinguished Scholar-Athlete from each sport.
