EVANT (July 3, 2009)--Evant High School will now play six man football. Head Coach and Athletic Director Scotty Miller confirmed to KWTX that that the school board made the decision to make the move this week.

Miller says that the school's enrollment numbers have dropped significantly since the last alignment. The school now has a student body between 80 and 90 students, and only 19 boys are going out for football this year.

With the move coming just two months before the season starts, the school is now scrambling to fill its schedule. Miller says that they already have several games and scrimmages booked, but they are still looking for a few more.

The Elks will not play in a district this season. But they will likely be added to one when realignment happens next winter.

In 2008, the Evant football team played in district 25-1A, going 1-4 in league play.
