UMHB Volleyball Drops Two Matches On Opening Day Of Season
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team could not overcome early deficits in either match and the Cru both dropped ends of a tri-match at Trinity University in the 2009 season opener Tuesday night in San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO (September 1, 2009)--The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team could not overcome early deficits in either match and the Cru both dropped ends of a tri-match at Trinity University in the 2009 season opener Tuesday night in San Antonio. UMHB opened the day with a three-game loss to Schreiner University and then fell in three games to tri-match host Trinity University to open the season at 0-2.

The Cru battled in the first match before falling to Schreiner University 29-27, 25-13, 25-22. Christina Miller had a team-high eight kills in her first collegiate match. Kaydie Cochran added five kills and five digs. Alexis Tharp had a team-best 11 assists and Erin Maenius added 13 digs for the Cru.

UMHB then dropped a 25-15, 25-7, 25-9 decision to Trinity University to close out the day. Nicole Cowan had three kills, Maenius posted seven digs and Kayla Marzean had five assists for the Cru in that match.

The Cru will travel to Tyler this weekend to play in the U.T.-Tyler/Azalea Orthopedic Classic. UMHB will face Southwestern Assemblies of God and Mid-America Christian to open the tournament on Friday. The Cru will close out that tournament with matches against Jarvis Christian and the University of St. Thomas on Saturday.
