LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. (September 23, 2009)--A prosecutor in Kentucky says she has offered a plea bargain to former Texas A&M basketball coach Billy Gillispie in a drunken driving case.
Gillispie left A&M for Kentucky after three seasons, during which he took the Aggies from a 0-16 Big 12 record to their first trip to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen since 1980.
Gillispie was fired this season after two years coaching the Wildcats.
Anderson County Attorney Bobbi Jo Lewis discussed the plea bargain in court Wednesday during a pretrial conference with Gillispie's attorney, William Patrick.
Gillispie didn't attend.
Lewis says no agreement has been reached.
Patrick said a "reasonable offer" had been proposed, but he needs to further discuss it with his client.
Gillispie is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 5.
He was arrested last month on a driving under the influence charge after refusing sobriety tests during an early morning traffic stop in Anderson County.
He later checked into an alcohol rehab program in Texas.
Gillispie was fired this season after two years coaching the Wildcats.
