IRVING (October 30, 2009)--Baylor sophomore quarterback Robert Griffin was selected as Baylor’s representative on the Big 12 Conference 2009 Fall Chick-Fil-A Community of Champions list, the league office announced Friday. Griffin joins Texas Tech track and field student-athlete Carson Smith as the lone underclassmen so honored.
Griffin, a product of Copperas Cove [Texas] High School, was a Freshman All-America selection and the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year last season. He sustained a season-ending knee injury in the Bears’ third game this season after producing six touchdowns (four passing, two rushing) in 10 quarters of play.
Community of Champions members are selected based on criteria of academics (minimum 3.0 GPA), community service and leadership/sportsmanship. Each league member nominates its representative on the list and receives $3,000 on the student-athlete’s behalf from Chick-Fil-A.
Tickets for Baylor’s football game Saturday against Nebraska are available online at www.BaylorBears.com or through the Baylor Ticket Office at 254.710.1000. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:32 a.m. CDT; the game will be televised nationally on the Versus Network.
