DALLAS (November 4, 2009)—Civic leaders in Dallas say they're organizing a new bowl game to replace the Cotton Bowl in the city's Fair Park stadium.
The Dallas Football Classic is planned for New Year's Day 2011, they said.
Organizers say they'll use a rotation of also-rans from three collegiate football conferences to produce the lineups for the game.
They anticipate the first game will pit the seventh-ranked team from the Big 12 Conference against the sixth-ranked team from the Big Ten, should those teams be excluded from Bowl Championship Season consideration.
Teams from Conference USA will also be considered.
The plan awaits NCAA licensing at the annual postseason bowl meetings next April.
The plan would run through the 2013 regular season.
The final Cotton Bowl will be played in January at the stadium.
The Cotton Bowl moves to the new Dallas Cowboys stadium beginning in 2010 after nearly 80 years in Fair Park.

Just what we need, another bowl game in the endless string of them to award 6-6 teams for a mediocre season. Anything for a buck. This one should really suck - seventh place in the Big12 vs. sixth place from the Big 10. Can hardly wait to watch Iowa State vs. Indiana!!

This is a time for mourning. The last great remnant of the Southwest Conference will be gone. Once they move it to Arlington, it just will not be the same any more.
