FSU Athlete From Texas Up For Rhodes Scholarship
A Florida State athlete from Texas is a semifinalist for a Rhodes Scholarship.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 20, 2009)--A Florida State University athlete from Texas is a semifinalist for a Rhodes Scholarship.

Erin Simmons, who throws the hammer and javelin for Florida State's national powerhouse track team, interviews Saturday in Birmingham, Ala., for the two-year scholarship at the University of Oxford.

She is also a candidate for a Fulbright Scholarship.

Simmons, a marine biologist from Argyle, is currently pursuing a master's degree in the university's Marine certificate program.

Myron Rolle, a three-year starter on the Seminole football team, won a Rhodes scholarship last year and shot putter Garrett Johnson from Tampa won the coveted scholarship in 2006.
