Kawasaki, Japan – Former University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football player Josh Kubiak led Team USA in tackles and helped lead the USA to the gold medal with a 23-20 overtime victory over Japan in the 2007 World Championship of American Football. Kubiak posted a team-high seven tackles and had one tackle for loss in the gold medal victory. He finished the three-game tournament with eight tackles, two interceptions, a tackle for loss and a blocked punt as USA went 3-0 in its first appearance in the championship. Kubiak’s outstanding performance also came just seven months after suffering a severe knee injury in UMHB’s 34-20 national quarterfinal loss at Wesley College last December.

Kubiak is the first UMHB and American Southwest Conference player selected to play for Team USA. This marks the first World Championship of American Football appearance for Team USA. Kubiak was a four-year letterman for UMHB from Granbury High School and he earned back-to-back ASC Defensive Player of the Year honors
