Seguin, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s golf team closed with a strong final round to move up one spot in the team standings and the Cru finished fourth at the John Bohmann Memorial Invitational Tuesday afternoon in Seguin. The UMHB men posted a 295-284-288=867 total to finish 10 strokes behind team champion and tournament host Texas Lutheran University. TLU shot 280-290-287=857 and won a scorecard playoff against Tyler Junior College 278-285-294=857 to take the team title. U.T.-Tyler finished third with a 291-285-284=860, seven shots ahead of the Cru. McMurry University finished fifth with a 284-292-293=869, Hardin-Simmons University was sixth with a 288-300-294=882, Trinity University took seventh at 298-295-300=893, U.T.-Dallas claimed eight place after shooting 293-303-300=896, U.T.-Brownsville was ninth with a 301-296-305=902 and there was a three-tie for 10th place at 907 between LeTourneau University (301-298-308), Southwestern University (300-308-299) and Schreiner University (300-301-306). The Texas Lutheran JV took 13th place at 296-292-328=916, the McMurry JV finished 14th with a 306-323-310=939 and Concordia Texas was 15th with a 324-328-329=981. The two-day, 54-hole event was played on a par-72, 7,058-yard layout at the Golf Club of Seguin.

UMHB was led individually by Davis Dewald’s 72-71-70=213. Dewald finished in a three-way tie for fifth place. Craig McCoy posted a 72-73-70=215 for the Cru to tie for ninth place, Eric White’s 76-73-72=221 was good for a tie for 22nd. Tory Lujan tied for 27th with a 72-71-79=222, Casey Wharton carded a 75-76-72=223 to tie for 32nd, Ryan Eastman recorded an 81-69-74=224 to tie for 34th, Shaun Felechner shot 76-74-79=229 to tie for 48th place and Shayne Eddleman posted a 76-75-83=234 to tie for 62nd place for UMHB. Tyler Junior College’s Blaine Weiterman won the individual title after shooting 68-67-71=206.

The UMHB men will return to action with a trip to Alexandria, Louisiana for the Louisiana College Invitational. That tournament will be played September 24th and 25th at Oakwing Golf Club.

UMHB WOMEN’S GOLF FINISHES SEVENTH AT TLU INVITATIONAL

Seguin, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s golf team improved by 11 strokes in the final round and the Lady Cru moved up two spots in the team standings to post a seventh-place finish at the TLU Lady Bulldog Fall Classic Tuesday afternoon in Seguin. The UMHB women shot 362-351=713 and finished 64 shots behind team champion Tyler Junior College’s 323-326=649 total. Southwestern University finished second with a 329-333=662, St. Mary’s University was third at 327-351=678, McMurry University claimed fourth place with a 335-347=682, U.T.-Brownsville was fifth with a 339-347-686 and U.T.-Tyler finished sixth with a 344-354=698. Trinity University was eighth with a 355-365=720, Incarnate Word took ninth place after carding a 374-352=726, Schreiner University finished tenth with a 356-381=737, Texas Lutheran took 11th with a 367-376=743, LeTourneau University was 12th with a 375-374=749, U.T.-Dallas shot 399-391=790 to finish 13th and Texas A&M-International was 14th with a 412-414=826. The two-day, 36-hole event was played on a par-72, 5,843-yard layout at Starcke Park Golf Course in Seguin.

Courtney Kruppa posted the top individual finish for UMHB, shooting 86-83=169 to tie for 13th place. Kathryne Lozano posted a 93-84=177 for UMHB to tie for 32nd place, Allison Williams shot 90-89=179 to take 36th place, Taylour Shaw fired a 93-95=188 to finish 48th and Courtney Nelson tied for 60th place after carding a 102-99=201.Marisa Mauldin of Southwestern University won the individual title after posting a 76-77=153 total.

The UMHB women will return to action with a trip to Richardson for the U.T.-Dallas Invitational. That tournament will be played September 17th and 18th at Canyon Creek Country Club.
