Baylor Equestrian Western Falls In Opening Round

WACO (April 18, 2013) -- The No. 8 Baylor Western team fell 5-3 to No. 9 Auburn in the opening round of the NCEA National Championship at the Extraco Events Center in Waco. The loss ends the Western squad’s season.

“Auburn never opened the door for us, they kept it shut the whole time,” head coach Ellen White said. “I thought we had some riders who rode well, but not enough.”

The Bears opened with 3-1 loss in Reining, as second-team All-American Shelbey Jackson secured the lone point for BU with a 140.

Baylor needed at least three points in Horsemanship for a win, but garnered a 2-2 tie, as Parris Rice scored an event-best 149.5 for a 0.5 point win and Mary Brown totaled a 147.5.

Baylor is still alive in Hunter Seat, as the overall No. 1 overall seed earned a bye into the second round. The Bears will face UT Martin beginning at 9:00 a.m. beginning with Fences.
