Baylor Golf Teams Wrap up Weekend Tournaments

DURHAM, N.C. (October 13, 2013) -- Baylor’s men’s golf team finished in second place at the Rod Myers Invitational, just three strokes back of tournament champion Northwestern. The Bears shot 6-under-par 282 in Sunday’s final round, which was five strokes better than any team in the field, but they were unable to overcome the 12-stroke deficit they faced entering the day.

BU finished at 7-under-par 857 in the 54-hole tournament. Junior Kyle Jones shot a final round 2-under 70 to finish in third place individually, just one stroke back of co-champions Jack Perry and Matt Fitzpatrick of Northwestern. It was Jones’ second career top-5 finish. Senior Jerry Ruiz jumped 12 places in the standings to finish tied for eighth place after a final round 5-under-par 67. It was Ruiz’s second top-10 finish through three tournaments this season.

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (October 13, 2013) -- The Baylor women’s golf team placed 18th at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational after shooting 11-over-par 299 in Sunday’s final round at the UNC Finley Golf Course. Baylor finished the 54-hole tournament at 44-over-par 908.

Laura Lonardi tied for 27th place after shooting even-par 72 in the final round to finish at 4-over 220 for the tournament. Natalia Perez shot 1-over par 73 on Sunday to finish with a final score of 12-over 228, placing her in a tie for 64th place.

Hayley Davis and Maggie Beth Byers both finished at 19-over 235. Byers shot 1-over 73 and Davis shot 9-over 81 in Sunday’s final round. Emma Carberry shot 14-over 86 to contribute to her final score of 23-over 239.

Filippo Zucchetti also moved up the leaderboard with a final round 1-over par 73 to finish tied for 16th place. Andreas Gjesteby finished one stroke behind Zucchetti in a tie for 22nd place at 4-over 220, and Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen shot a final round even-par 72 to move up eight spots on the leaderboard to a tie for 46th place at 9-over 225 in the tournament.
