Baylor Signee Austin Selected As McDonald's All-American

WACO -- Baylor men’s basketball signee Isaiah Austin is one of 24 high school seniors selected to play in the prestigious 2012 McDonald’s All-American Game.

The 7-foot center from Arlington, Texas, will play for the West Team in the 35th McDonald’s All-American Game, which will be played March 28 at the United Center in Chicago. The girls’ McDonald’s game will start at 6:30 p.m. CST on ESPNU, followed by the boys’ game at 8:30 p.m. CST on ESPN.

Austin, one of three players from Texas selected to the West Team, is the third signee in program history to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game, joining Tweety Carter (2006) and sophomore Perry Jones III (2010). Austin, who headlined Baylor’s top-10 recruiting class in November, is a consensus top-5 and five-star performer at Grace Preparatory Academy.

At the time he signed with Baylor, Austin was ranked as the No. 3 overall prospect in the Class of 2012 by ESPNU and 247Sports.com, No. 4 by MaxPreps.com and No. 5 by both Rivals.com and Scout.com. He was rated as the nation’s top prospect at his position by ESPNU and 247Sports.com, No. 2 nationally by Scout.com and No. 3 by Rivals.com. He is the third consensus top-10 recruit in the last three years to sign with Baylor, joining Jones III and freshman Quincy Miller (2011). Austin was a member of the 2011 adidas Nations roster.

As a junior in 2010-11, Austin led Grace Prep to the TAPPS Class 4A title, earning Fort Worth Star-Telegram Super Team Player of the Year honors. He averaged 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 6.0 blocks as a junior for the Lions.
