The McLennan Highlanders moved to 7-0 on the season with a 79-72 win over the Angelina Roadrunners Thursday night at the Lewis Orr Classic in Corsicana.
McLennan held the 18-14 lead midway through the first half. The Highlanders broke away, building a 15-point lead with just over five minutes remaining in the half. Angelina cut the lead to seven but McLennan extended it to 12 at the break, 42-30.
The Highlanders held the double-digit lead the majority of the second half, leading by as many as 16 with two minutes to go. Angelina rallied, cutting the lead to three with 22.4 seconds on the clock. Wayne Langtson and Austen Bradshaw combined to go 5-6 from the free throw line and the Highlander defense held the Roadrunners to one free throw in the final seconds to secure the win.
Sophomore Joe Lundy led the Highlanders with 19 points and Langston added 18. Freshman Jalen Jones and sophomore Deondre Ray scored 10 points each.
The Highlanders will face Jacksonville at 3 p.m. Friday at Navarro College in Corsicana.
