WACO (April 24, 2013) -- The McLennan Highlassies swept the Grayson Lady Vikings with two run-rule victories this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
MCC took game one 11-1 with Veronica Garcia getting the win in the circle. Natali Duron led the Highlassies at the plate, going 2-2 with a home run and three RBIs. Lena Capps was 2-3 with a double and two RBIs. Taylor Davis and Courtney Mica both went 1-2 with a double and two RBIs.
The Highlassies defeated the Lady Vikings 11-2 in the nightcap with Laura Wilson picking up the win. Davis was 2-2 at the plate with a double, a triple and five RBIs. Capps recorded a double and two RBIs. Mica, Brooke Jones and Audrey Calvo all picked up an RBI.
MCC will close out conference play on Saturday, hosting Temple for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
The McLennan Highlanders and Vernon Chaparrals split today's doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.
MCC took game one 5-4 with Jamie Bittle getting the win and Enrique Oquendo picking up the save.
The Highlanders began the scoring with one run in the bottom of the second as Kyle Thornell was hit by the pitch, stole second and scored on a double by Andrew Rhodes.
MCC added three runs in the third. Matt Hilston walked, stole second and came in to score on two passed balls. Evan Williams drew a walk and scored on a home run by Thornell.
Vernon got on the board with three runs in the fifth. Ben Dunbar was safe at first on a Highlander error. Jake Nash followed with a double to score Dunbar. Jamie Gurrola then tripled, scoring Nash, and Gurrola scored on a ground out by Brendan McCarthy.
The Highlanders final run came in the bottom of the sixth as Zach Valenzuela singled, stole second, moved to third on a single by Rhodes and scored on a single by Floyd.
The Chaparrals rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh as McCarthy singled, moved to third on a single by Mike Sordia and scored on a single by Josh Sloan.
Vernon defeated MCC 9-6 in the nightcap with Kody Hessemer taking the loss.
The Chaparrals scored four runs in the top of the fourth. Gurrola singled, moved to second on a ground out by McCarthy and scored on a single by Sloan. Blake Scannell then singled to score Sloan. Dunbar followed with a single to score Scannell. Nick Hill then doubled, scoring Dunbar.
The Highlanders scored one run in the bottom of the fourth as Reid Coover doubled and scored on a double by Valenzuela.
Vernon added two runs in the fifth. Colton Daniel and Gurrola both singled. McCarthy reached first safely on an error to load the bases. Sloan then singled to score Daniels. Dunbar was safe on an error, bringing Gurrola in to score.
MCC added a run in the fifth as Hilston was safe at first on an error, stole second, advanced to third on another error and scored on a singly by Thornell.
The Chaparrals extended their lead with a run in the sixth as Nash walked, stole second and scored on a single by Gurrola.
The Highlanders scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Gonzalez and Valenzuela both singled and scored on a triple by Hilston.
Vernon's final two runs came in the eighth. Hill and Nash both singled and scored on a single by Gurrola.
MCC added a run in the eighth as Trevor Podsednik walked, moved to third on a single by Hilston and scored on a fly out by Cole Calder.
The Highlanders rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the ninth as Coover singled and came around to score on a Vernon error.
The two teams will complete the four-game series with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Vernon.
