MCC, Temple Softball Split


WACO (April 27, 2013) -- The McLennan Highlassies and Temple Lady Leopards split Saturday's conference doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.

Temple defeated MCC 7-4 in game one with Veronica Garcia taking the loss.

The Lady Leopards scored one run in the top of the first. Savannah Stech doubled. Jenna Bane then reached safely on an error, bringing Stech in to score.

The Highlassies tied the game with a run in the third as Sevanah Campos-Reyes was hit by the pitch, stole second, advanced to third on a Temple error and scored on a single by Taylor Davis.

MCC took the lead with a run in the fifth as Audrey Calvo was safe on a bunt, advanced to second on a throwing error, moved to third on a single by Davis and scored on a sacrifice fly by Courtney Mica.

Temple added one run in the sixth as Shelbi Swenson singled, moved to second on a ground out by Amber Peters and scored on a single by Lacie Salas.

Temple took the lead with five runs in the top of the seventh. Kelsie Lee and Rachel Laird both singled. Stech followed with a triple to score Lee and Laird. Bane was safe on a bunt, bringing Stech in to score. Swenson followed with a double. Salas then reached first and advanced to second on an error, bringing Bane and Swenson in to score.

The Highlassies rounded out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Calvo bunted for a single, moved to second on an errant throw and advanced to third on a passed ball. Davis drew a walk. Calvo came in to score on a fly out by Mica, and Davis scored on a single by Kady Crow.

MCC bounced back to defeat Temple 5-4 in the nightcap with Tiffany Birdwell getting the win in the circle.

The Highlassies began the scoring with one run in the bottom of the first as Mica walked, moved to second on Crow's walk and scored on a single by Natali Duron,

The Lady Leopards tied the game with a run in the top of the second as Swenson doubled and came around to score on an MCC error.

MCC took the lead with two runs in the second as Birdwell walked and scored on Davis' home run.

Temple added a run in the third as Rachel Malish reached first safe on an error, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lee, moved to third on Laird's single and scored on a single by Stech.

The Lady Leopards took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Swenson was safe at first on an error, moved to second on a passed ball and advanced to third on another error. Chelsea Santillan drew a walk and stole second. Salas singled to score Swenson, and Santillan scored on a single by Mackenzie Grier.

The Highlassies sealed the win with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Campos-Reyes drew a walk, stole second and moved to third on a single by Davis. Mica as hit by the pitch to load the bases. Crow reached safely on an error, bringing Campos-Reyes in to score. Davis then scored on a fly out by Lena Capps.

MCC will compete in the Region V Tournament on May 3-5 at Texas Woman's University in Denton
