(February 8, 2012) -- The McLennan Highlanders fell to the Weatherford Coyotes 59-51 tonight in Weatherford.
MCC built a six-point lead with 15:22 to play in the first half. Weatherford rallied back, tying the game at 12 midway through the half. The Highlanders pulled away and held the 30-23 advantage at the break.
The Highlanders extended the lead to nine early in the second half but the Coyotes fought back, tying the game at 43 with 10:25 to go in the game. Weatherford ended the game on a 16-8 run to win the game.
Jeffery Ricard led the Highlanders with 14 points.
In women's action, the Highlassies fell to the Lady Coyotes 87-59.
MCC held the 16-14 lead midway through the first half. Weatherford used a 10-0 run in the next two minutes to take an eight-point lead with 8:28 to go in the half. The Highlassies cut the lead to four but the Lady Coyotes pulled away, holding the 41-28 lead at the break.
Weatherford opened the second half on a 16-0 run and MCC was unable to recover.
Taylor Collier led the Highlassies with 16 points. Dominique Taylor and Briah Blakely scored 11 and 10, respectively.
MCC returns to action on Saturday, hosting Temple. The women will tip off at 2p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m.
