Rangers Rally For West

Arlington (July 7, 2013) -- West native and former MLB player Scott Podsednik was in Colleyville on April 17, when his mom suddenly got off the phone while talking to his wife, Lisa.

"My mom got off the phone and said your dad came running into the house, something exploded in West," said Podsednik. I couldn't get in touch with my mother for 45 minutes to an hour to finally get a sense of what happened."

"When something like this hits your hometown, and hits that close to home, it brings on a all new meaning."

Baseball helped Podsednik launch a professional career, now that same sport is helping West heal from the devestation.

The Texas Rangers held the City of West night at the Ballpark in Arlington. Over 5,000 West residents and first responders attended the game for free. The club also raised thousands of dollars for the city, and even donated a fire truck.

"We certainly feel for that community and wanted to do something even if it was a small token to help in any way we could," said Rangers designated hitter Lance Berkman, who donated the fire truck. "I think the Rangers have done an excellent job of making that available to us."

"It's an amazing thing to just come out here and enjoy it," said West mayor Tommy Huska. "It's much needed and I think the timing is perfect, I think two and a half months after this tragedy.

"They need to sit back and breathe a little bit."
