UMHB Ranked 3rd In D3football.com Poll

BELTON (July 18, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team is ranked third in the country in the D3football.com preseason Top 25 Poll, released today. The ranking is the highest of the preseason so far for UMHB and the Cru has been ranked in the top five in the nation in three preseason polls.

UMHB totaled 554 points in the poll, but was the only member of the top four to not receive a first-place vote. Defending national champion Mount Union was the pick to repeat with 13 first-place votes and 606 total points. St. Thomas, last season’s national runner-up is ranked second with 594 total points and seven first-place votes. Linfield College received the other five first-place votes and comes in fourth, just one point behind the Cru with 553 total points. Wesley College rounds out the top five with 529 total points in the poll.

A total of five of UMHB’s 2013 opponents are mentioned in the D3football.com Top 25 Poll. Wesley is ranked #5 in the country and Louisiana College, Hardin-Simmons University, Trinity University and University of Redlands are all receiving votes in the poll.

The Cru is coming off a 13-1 season and UMHB advanced to the National Semifinals before falling at Mount Union 48-35. The Cru has won or shared eight straight ASC Championships and ten of the last 11. UMHB expects to return five offensive starters, eight defensive starters and 46 letter winners from that team this season.

The Cru will report to campus on August 14th with the first practice scheduled for the morning of August 15th. UMHB will kick off the 2013 season with a 7:00 PM Pacific Time start at University of Redlands on September 7th. The Cru will open home play with the inaugural game at Crusader Stadium and the showdown with Wesley College on September 21st.
