Belton (September 19, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept Our Lady of the Lake 3-0 Thursday night in Belton. The Cru improves to 11-2 on the season while the Saints fall to 6-6.
UMHB pulled away in a back-and-forth first set to take a 25-19 victory over the Saints. Our Lady of the Lake gained an early lead in the second set before the Cru used a 6-0 rally to gain a four-point lead on the Saints. UMHB did not trail again, taking the second set 25-17. The third set remained close again with a 19-19 tie until UMHB closed out the set with a 6-3 run to earn the 25-22 set-victory and match win.
Bianca Patterson and Lauren Powell led the Cru with 10 kills each while Kendall Pye added seven. Shelby Prather recorded a match-high 28 assists with Pye adding nine. Defensively, Powell led the Cru with three kills while Abby Voskuil recorded 18 digs. UMHB recorded a team-total 42 kills in the match with four team blocks.
The Cru will return to action and begin conference play Saturday at Concordia University. UMHB will face Sul Ross State at 1 p.m. and Concordia University 3 p.m.
