Waco Selected As 2013 NCAA Tourney Site

(February 13, 2012) -- Baylor has been selected as one of the first-round sites for the 2013 NCAA women's basketball tournament, the NCAA women's basketball committee announced Monday.

Baylor served as a first-round host in 2011, with the No. 1-seeded Lady Bears beating Prairie View A&M and West Virginia en route to the Elite Eight.

'I am extremely pleased that the NCAA has selected Baylor to host first- and second-round games in 2013. I appreciate the hard work of our administration and staff in this effort and most importantly, thank the community and our Lady Bear fans for their support,” said Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey.

"As a committee we are excited that in 2013 our championship will be hosted by institutions from nine different conferences, with Delaware and St. John’s hosting for the first time," said Greg Christopher, chair of the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee and director of athletics at Bowling Green State University. "Having this geographic blend of sites is important to the committee as we continue to grow the game of women’s basketball."

The other 15 first-round host cities for 2013 are Baton Rouge, La. (LSU), Boulder, Colo. (Colorado), College Park, Md. (Maryland), College Station (Texas A&M), Columbus, Ohio (Ohio State), Durham, N.C. (Duke), Iowa City, Iowa (Iowa), Knoxville, Tenn. (Tennessee), Louisville, Ky. (Louisville), Lubbock (Texas Tech), Newark, Del. (Delaware), Queens, N.Y. (St. John's), Spokane, Wash. (Gonzaga), Stanford, Calif. (Stanford) and Storrs, Conn. (Connecticut).

First and second-round sites will host games either Saturday, March 23 and Monday, March 25 or Sunday, March 24 and Tuesday, March 26, 2013 (dates to be determined in June 2012).
