The 60th-ranked Zsiga jumped out to an early lead in his match against Marco Nunez of Florida State, claiming the first set 6-2, before fighting off a strong comeback to win the second set 7-5 to secure a spot in the second round.
Junior Tony Lupieri fell in three sets to Bruno Semenzato of Duke. After dropping the first set 6-1, the 79th-ranked Lupieri recovered to win the second set 6-2. However, he was unable to sustain the momentum and fell in the third set 6-4.
Baylor junior Diego Galeano also got off to a slow start in his match against Becker O’Shaughnessey of Alabama, dropping his first set 6-0. Galeano pushed the Crimson Tide player in the second set, but ultimately came up short 7-5.
