HOUSTON (June 25, 2009)--Two suspects are charged with capital murder in the killing of an undercover officer during a shootout that also claimed the alleged gunman's life.

The Harris County District Attorney's office said in a statement Wednesday night that Andres Nava-Maldonado, 41, of Mexico and Xiomara Mendez-Rosales, 36, of Honduras, were charged in the death of Officer Henry Canales, 42.

The suspects' immigration status is under investigation.

Authorities say Canales, a Houston police officer since 1993, was shot Tuesday night while in the parking lot of a drug store during an investigation of the sale of stolen televisions.

A juvenile female was also arrested.

The dead gunman was identified as Roberto Pedroza Carrillo, 37.

Another officer shot him.
