WICHITA FALLS (July 2, 2009)--North Texas authorities say a pastor and his wife who were hit and killed by a train committed suicide together.

Clay County Sheriff Kenny Lemons said witnesses on the train reported seeing the couple standing and embracing on the tracks in the path of the approaching train Tuesday night.

The train engineer blew his horn and applied the brakes, but the couple would not get out of the way.

Lemons identified them as Eldon Earl Johnson, 69, pastor of Ringgold Baptist Church, and his wife Linda Kay Johnson, 61.

They lived in nearby Henrietta.

Authorities did not reveal a motive for the double suicide.

The sheriff said their deaths are tragic for the community.

The church was damaged in wildfires that nearly destroyed the town of Ringgold in January 2006.

I just read about this in the Dallas newspaper today. How horribly sad! I don't know any of the family but I wish to extend my sympathy to the family of the couple. I know that besides being devastated, they can't help wondering "WHY?" May God comfort you in this horrible time and know that many, many Christians are in prayer for your families.
